Think again about those elite schools.

I AM replying to Jak Li's letter regarding the debate on the Malay College Kuala Kangsar ("Some things are sacred, personal" - NST, Dec 21).

I am in my 50s, and a product of an elite school (though not MCKK).

Being from a poor kampung family, I am grateful for the opportunity to have had a quality education. There was a great sense of purpose in such institutions.

But I would hesitate to give such high praise to them. In spite of the illustrious names of Malaysia's previous and current political leaders cited, there is hardly a name that is world class for achieving excellence in areas such as science, business or arts.
