THE HEALTH department has ordered all state health workers in Bicol Region hospitals to be on duty as the number of evacuees displaced by the increasingly restive Mayon volcano continues to swell.

In a phone interview yesterday, Health Undersecretary Alexander A. Padilla said the danger posed by the volcano's imminent eruption prompted the declaration of blue alert which requires all medical personnel to report for duty and hospitals to prepare for influx of patients.

The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said in an update yesterday that 45,267 persons are staying in 27 evacuation centers in Albay province, …
