Peso falls as dollar strengthens.

The peso closed weaker against the dollar yesterday as investors bet on the greenback amid optimism on an improving US economy.

The local currency closed at P46.67 per dollar, six centavos weaker than Friday's finish at P46.61 per dollar.

The peso started trading at P46.70.

A currency trader said the peso closed weaker as it tracked the performance of other currencies against the dollar.

"The dollar was strong against other currencies. There were those who bought dollars, riding on what happened last week as optimism about continuing economic recovery gained momentum," the trader said.
