Thai Aids Trial to Be Repeated in Africa.

An experimental Aids vaccine which reduced HIV infection by a third in Thailand will be repeated in Africa, Dr Alan Bernstein, the director of the Global HIV Vaccine Enterprise, has said.

The trial in Thailand, whose results were released in September, is the first vaccine to show any protection against HIV/Aids, offering an important step in the development of Aids vaccine.

Speaking at an AIDS conference in Kampala yesterday, Dr Bernstein said: "We are looking at how we can repeat a version of that trial in Africa where the Aids prevalence is high. While the Thai trial was conducted among the general population, we could do this among …
