Senate approves Freedom of Information Act; House confirmation awaited.

THE SENATE passed on third and final reading yesterday a measure allowing full disclosure of government transactions, paving the way for its possible ratification before the month-long Christmas break that starts this weekend.

Approved was Senate Bill 3308 or the proposed Freedom of Information Act that would also provide mechanics for the automatic disclosure of key state transactions.

Senator Alan Peter S. Cayetano, chairman of the committee on public information and mass media, said he was awaiting confirmation from the House if it would adopt the Senate version of the bill to do away with the bicameral conference committee. …
