Philippines/United Nations: Philippines voted anew to UN migrant workers body.

Section: General News - The Philippines was overwhelmingly voted recently to the United Nations Committee on the Protection of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (CMW) for another three year-term from 2010 to 2013.

Ambassador to Canada Jose S. Brillantes, who is concurrently the vice chairman of the CMW, earned 34 out of 40 UN members voting during the elections at the UN headquarters in New York on December 3.

The CMW monitors the implementation of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families.

The Philippines signed the Convention in 1993 and ratified it in 1995. There are …
