Gov't to release reserve sugar in bid to ease tight supply.

THE SUGAR REGULATORY Administration (SRA) yesterday ordered the release of reserve sugar in a bid to ease the supply tightness in the domestic market.

"The Sugar Board decided to release sugar to help address the problem on availability and price of refined sugar in local outlets. We will release 'C-1' sugar to 'B'," Sugar Regulatory Administrator Rafael L. Coscolluela said in a telephone interview yesterday.

All "C-1" or "strategic reserve sugar" produced last Nov. 8-29 - amounting to 11,622 metric tons (MT), which accounts for 47% of total reserve sugar produced from September to Nov. 29 - will be converted to "B," or sugar …
