WHERE IS IT? Lake Woerth is Austria's answer to the Italian lakes. Countless European movers and shakers have made this their summer escape, making this a particularly upmarket destination: it is difficult to find a property for sale here for less than a million euros. Part of the attraction is the abundance of beautiful regional architecture, showcasing some of Austria's finest castles and private homes. Schloss Velden is one of the newly refurbished castles. It flung open its freshly painted doors to the public in 2007, and it is now one of the area's premium luxury hotels.
