Only a tiny proportion of children even try to buy alcohol from shops, an NHS poll has revealed.aForty-two per cent of 7,800 11 to 15 year olds questioned in the NHS Information Centre's Smoking, Drinking and Drug Use among Young People in England in 2008 survey said they had obtained alcohol in the past four weeks.aBut just 6% had bought or even tried to buy alcohol from a shop.aThe most common ways to get hold of alcohol were being given it by friends (24%), asking someone else to buy it for them (18%) or taking it from home with permission (14%). aChildren described as "current drinkers" in the survey - those who had tried alcohol but did not say …
