Section: Government and Politics - Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has blocked the Social Security Office plan to spend more than a billion baht on PR campaigns, the Bangkok Post reports.

The proposed spending has come under heavy fire for being overpriced and unnecessary.

The prime minister on December 1 held talks with SSO secretary-general Pan Wannapinij to discuss the PR project and ordered Mr Pan to shelve the spending plan until there was sufficient justification for it, an SSO source said.

Following the prime minister's instruction, the SSO board did not consider the issue on December 1 as earlier scheduled.
