The Manatee High football team didn't have any throw-back jerseys to wear so it did the next best thing. The Hurricanes discarded their fun-and- gun offense and played some old- fashioned smash-mouth football.
It was good enough to earn Manatee a hard-fought 21-7 Class 5A-Region 2 semifinal victory over St. Petersburg High Friday night at Hawkins Stadium. The win sends the 'Canes on the road next week to play Palm Bay Bayside High for the region championship.
