The credibility of eyewitnesses could play a key role in this week's first-degree murder trial of a once-promising Lakewood Ranch High School football player.

Prosecutors say several witnesses will identify Timothy L. Brooks, 19, as the man who approached William White Jr. as he sat in a car, tore a gold chain from White's neck and fired a single shot that killed White as the car sped away.

But Brooks has maintained he was somewhere else at the time of the shooting, and his attorney has listed four witnesses who could take the stand to back up the former quarterback's alibi for the July 2008 shooting.
