Telkom sets its sights on R6bn mobile strategy The company aims to grow as SA's fourth cellular operator LESLEY STONES Information Technology Editor TELKOM reckons it can succeed as SA's fourth cellular operator by pumping R6bn into a mobile strategy to capitalise on its existing networks, customer base, technology skills and billing systems.

Telkom Mobile will launch next year, challenging well-entrenched incumbents MTN and Vodacom and aiming to becoming a serious rival in a way that Cell C has failed to do.

Although Telkom previously owned 50% of Vodacom, it did not succeed in the cellular market as they had a dismal relationship. …
