It's time to accept foreign doctors SA is in great need of medical doctors and, according to the Rural Doctors' Association of SA (Rudasa), this need is more dire in rural areas. The country therefore has no choice but to rely on foreign doctors for many years to come. In light of this situation, some bodies of the Health Professions Council of SA (HPCSA), such as the Medical and Dental Professions Board, have reconsidered their position so as to register foreign qualified applicants without examination.

The government's position is to recruit only doctors from developed countries, a position that health bodies such as Rudasa lobby against. …
