King County's strong economy drove up assessed values for office buildings by more than 20 percent last year, with trophy office towers in downtown Seattle and Bellevue leading the way.
The combined value of all office buildings in King County jumped to $5.9 billion from $4.8 billion, an increase of 21.6 percent, according to a recent internal report by the King County Assessor's Office.
The increase reflects gains between Jan. 1, 1997, and Jan. 1, 1998, because state law requires county assessors to determine what the property values were on New Year's Day.
