A group for builders gets refocused.

The members of the Home Builders Association of Sarasota-Manatee's have had a tumultuous year and Dave Wick hopes he can help right the ship as the group sails into 2010 as its newly elected president.

"Obviously what we need to do is to get our people back to work as the economy gets back on track," said Wick, a partner in Manatee County's Medallion Homes. "We need to keep our local legislators on the ball, and in all honesty they are. We have their ears and we have their cooperation."

Wick said legislation is necessary to jump-start the region's building industry, from lowering building fees to making it more possible for banks to extend credit that builders need to start putting up homes again.
