Houston IPO activity flat but surge expected in fall. (initial public offerings in Houston, TX)

Six Houston-area IPOs, raised $371 million during the second quarter of 1998, 5 percent more than last year's second-quarter amount, but 13 percent lower than the first quarter of this year, according to an analysis prepared by Charles P. Young Co.

The six offerings involved LandCARE USA Inc. ($40 million), Transportation Components Inc. ($40 million), Horizon Offshore Inc. ($65 million), Omega Protein Corp. ($136 million), BrightStar Information ($55.3 million), and DA Consulting Group Inc. ($34.8 million).

Capital raising by Houston-area companies rose 92 percent in the second quarter to $4.6 billion on 34 deals, compared with $2.4 billion on 30 transactions in …
