CarMax challenge to state blue laws creates discord among dealers

A brewing legal battle over the state's longstanding automotive "blue laws" has Houston car dealers driving in all different directions.

While a Houston judge mulls whether automobile dealerships should be allowed to sell cars on Saturday and Sunday, many local dealers and their statewide industry association are frantically opposing the idea.

Since rolling into Texas more than a year ago, Virginia-based CarMax has fought a portion of the Texas Transportation Code - the so-called blue laws - that requires auto dealers to close at least one day every weekend. The company's local dealership has also disregarded the code and opened for business seven days a week. …
