Thailand: Prime minister says Democrat Party ready to compete with opposition Puea Thai Part at next election.

Section: Government and Politics - Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva says his party is ready to go head-to-head with political arch-rival Puea Thai (Pheu Thai Party) at the next general election, the Bangkok Post reports.

Mr Abhisit on October 25 said during his weekly radio and TV address he had to be ready for a general election at any time and did "not see any problem" with an immediate election.

"We are ready for any situation, be it staying in office, entering into an election or dissolving the House," Mr Abhisit said.

"But we are not ready for a coup. It is not me who is not ready but it is the country that is not." Mr Abhisit said the next election …
