Forget Private Ryan. It should have been called "Saving Private Ryan's Opening Weekend."
The studio's high-fallutin' computerized distrib network hit a glitch July 24 with hundreds of prints of "Saving Private Ryan" failing to arrive at their destinations around the country.
The gaffe had the potential to significantly alter the pic's weekend B.O. totals, even though just a few hundred prints were misrouted out of 3,600 copies.
The numerous regions that went without a first screening had prints in time for the second run of the pic. The B.O. totals could nonetheless prove harmful in the studio horse-race of opening weekend numbers.
