Two very welcome translations of Russian works on the reign of Empress Elizabeth (ruled 1741-61) have recently appeared. John T. Alexander has edited and translated Evgeny V Anisimov's Empress Elizabeth. Her Reign and Her Russia, 1741-1761 (Gulf Breeze, Fla.: Academic International P., 1995; pp. xvi + 276. N.p.).
