South African law body welcomes appointment of news chief justice.

Newly appointed Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo possessed a "vast and invaluable breadth of experience", the Law Society of SA said on Thursday.

The society represents the country's 18,800 attorneys and 4900 candidate attorneys.

"We are confident that our judiciary and our courts are in good hands," society co-chairs Thoba Poyo-Dlwati and Henri van Rooyen said in a statement.
