Thailand: PAD says move to amend Constitution bound to fail.

Section: Government and Politics - The People's Alliance for Democracy said on September 27 the move to change the charter was doomed because it was meant to advance the interest of politicians and not the public, The Nation reports.

"It has been used as a political bargaining tool," PAD coordinator Suriyasai Katasila said.

If the attempt to amend the Constitution was not based on serving the people, it would spark political conflicts, he said.

"If there is a public referendum, the matter would be distorted to a vote for the government or the opposition," he said.
