Makerere Hostels Affected By Hike in Tuition Fees.

Hostels around Makerere University have registered tremendous losses following the 40 per cent rise in tuition fees, a Daily Monitor survey has revealed.

Many students have opted not to rent the hostels as a way of coping with the rising cost of education. As a result, most hostels have failed to realise 100 percent occupancy a month into the new semester.

In Makerere University International Students Hostel (MISH), the quadruple rooms have turned into single rooms.

"We have converted some quadruple rooms into singles simply to fill the empty rooms because it cannot make sense to leave some rooms unoccupied," the hostel's …
