A FIFTH of families displaced by clashes in Maguindanao have returned to their homes during the month-long Ramadan, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said.

"More than 4,600 families composed of 22,122 persons have already voluntarily returned to their respective barangays of origin," Social Welfare Assistant Secretary Ruel G. Lucentales told BusinessWorld in a text message late Wednesday.

The number is roughly a fifth of the 23,096 families willing to return after being displaced by fire fights resulting from a botched ancestral domain agreement between the government and MILF. …
