Data-warehouse software vendors Informatica and Ardent Software plan soon to introduce meta-data management products, with Informatica improving an existing offering and Ardent adding a newly acquired technology.

A summer release of Informatica's PowerMart platform for building data marts will support tracking of meta data, or information about the origin of data, from multidimensional cubes. These cubes are used for analysis applications. The meta data will be details about factors such as time and geographical dimensions, as well as definitions of cube structures.
