New 'softer' GNC to convert 55 more stores to 'Live Well' retail concept. (General Nutrition Cos. Inc.)

Larger stores carry health and beauty products, aroma therapy

DOWNTOWN - General Nutrition Cos. Inc., the expansion-minded retailer of vitamins, minerals and health-related products, expects to convert 55 existing stores to its GNC Live Well concept and open an additional 10 Live Well stores this year.

Currently, GNC has 15 Live Wells, one of which is located in South Hills Village. GNC launched the concept in late 1996.

Laura Huskins, a financial analyst who tracks GNC for Adams, Harkness in Boston, described Live Well as "the old GNC with a softer touch."
