The delay in passing the Mental Health Bill (MHB) poses a threat to mental health care in Ghana. Currently, the three main psychiatric hospitals in the country; Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Pantang and Ankaful Mental Hospitals are indebted to the sum of GHc30 million.
The amount was accumulated over a period of five years on food and other supplies.
According to Dr. Akwasi Osei, Chief Psychiatrist at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital (APH), the state of Ghana's Mental Health Service faces eminent collapse as a result of the continuous delay of the passage of the mental health bill.
