Cyclist's death shocks charity bike ride organiser.

THE organiser of a charity bike ride has said she is "devastated" at the death of a rider during the event.

A 45-year-old man died in Embleton, Northumberland, on Sunday morning as he was taking part in the Great North Bike Ride.

The local man, who has not yet been named by police, died after colliding with another bike.

It is believed the dead man may have had a pre-existing health condition.

Lynn Lucas, of Hadrian Park, Wallsend, who organised the event, said: "It was just appalling, I just wanted to go home in the morning when I heard what had happened.
