KAMPALA City Council (KCC) has sold off to a private developer, a piece of prime land in Nakasero area, which includes a 50-metre section of tarmac road. While there is nothing wrong with city authorities leasing land to private developers, selling off part of a public road is totally unacceptable.

Mayor Nasser Sebaggala's argument that the road will be re-channelled cannot defend KCC's action, which has set a dangerous precedent. There is a reason why the road connecting Lourdel and Yusuf Lule roads was put where it is and not anywhere else.

The mayor further argues that the developments are going to create jobs, which is true. But are those jobs worth the resultant …
