THE Buganda kingdom has said it is ready to reconcile with the Uganda People's Congress (UPC).
Buganda, through its Kabaka Yekka, and UPC forged an alliance and formed the first post-independence government in 1962. But this marriage of convenience eventually collapsed as a result of internal intrigue, which led to Kabaka Yekka being sidelined and the 1966 crisis, in which Buganda ordered the central government off its soil.
The UPC government responded with an armed raid on the Lubiri (palace) forcing the Kabaka to flee into exile. Three years later, Kabaka Edward Mutesa, father of the reigning monarch, died in the United Kingdom. …
