KOLKATA, 30 AUG: Mohammedan Sporting Club made a fine start to their Indian Football Association Shield campaign as they beat Lajong FC 1-0 at Mohan Bagan ground here today.
The result may seem too close for comfort on paper but the margin could have been better if the city club's forwards converted all the opportunities presented to them by a hapless Lajong defence. Mohammedan's new Brazilian forward Eduardo da Silva Escobar broke Lajong's defence repeatedly but failed to convert rosy chances including a penalty in the 67 minute.
