Hokkaido / New brand of rice ready to hit Hokkaido shelves

Foodies in Hokkaido are licking their lips in anticipation of the launch this autumn of Yumepirika, a new variety of rice grown in Hokkaido.
The Yumepirika brand, which has wowed tasters with its moderate stickiness and soft texture, was developed by the Kamikawa Agricultural Experiment Station over 11 years. Full-scale cultivation started in Hokkaido this year.
The name Yumepirika is made up of two words--"yume," or dream in Japanese, and "pirika," or beautiful in the Ainu language--and was chosen among name suggestions submitted by the public.
