I was to play the young Ram in GopalMasterji's Ramayanain Kan-pur.Not that it was my first stage appearance but undoubtedly my first "real" role.

Some five to six years back, as Princess Roopkumari in a Bengali play, I had received a thunderous applause. Many, many years later, looking back, I realised that half the audience had not even been able to see me. People had cheered and clapped for a stunning performance by Tapudiwho played a rakshasto perfection. Clad in black, she jumped on to the wooden stage and picking up the baby princess of Roopnagareffortlessly, stormed out.

Hence, I take Ramayanaas my first play. With my head held …
