SECURITY cameras across the city could be given a huge overhaul to improve safety.

Aberdeen City Council wants to modernise its CCTV network.

Members of the authority's housing and environment committee will discuss on Wednesday whether to spend GBP15,000 to prepare a business plan for an upgrade.

A report said it was hoped Grampian Police could also contribute another GBP15,000.

Previous estimates from the police in 2006 show that a complete upgrade of the system would cost GBP2.5 million.
