Aug. 20--DAVIE -- Town officials are paving the way for redevelopment along the State Road 7 corridor by approving a new "transit-oriented" zoning category designed to spur construction and reduce sprawl.

During a council meeting Wednesday night, Davie Mayor Judy Paul predicted the plan likely won't take off for at least three years. But when good times return, the town will be ready, officials said. "The economy is not going to be bad forever," Davie spokesman Braulio Rosa said outside Town Hall before the vote. "We have to be prepared for when it turns around. And the east side is where it's at." The Town Council gave unanimous approval …
