from BUSINESS LINE, August 16, 2009 Every day, we are witness to the twenty-something youths tearing down the roads on their motor bikes without wearing helmets. The deaths caused due to accidents every year outnumber most epidemics. What would it take to make people wear helmets? One suggestion is to fine those who do not wear helmets. Most cities have that rule. But direct penalties do not always help in prompting people to adhere to the law. And then, there are the activists who claim everybody should be responsible for their own lives.
