The recent macro-economic analysis of the Indian oil and gas sector by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) has revealed that India imported 146.440 tonnes worth Rs 4027.80 billion of crude oil and petroleum products during 2008-2009. India exported 36.931 tonnes worth Rs 1174.58 billion of petroleum products during 2008-2009 (40.779 tonnes worth Rs 1107.89 billion in 2007-2008). Major export commodities for India during 2008-2009 were high speed diesel (13.76 tonnes), naphtha (7.24 tonnes), fuel oil (5.93 tonnes), MS (5.32 tonnes), and aviation turbine fuel (3.4 tonnes).
