MANILA, Philippines -Chinese Ambassador Liu Jianchao lauded yesterday the Philippines for its cooperation in fighting drug trafficking, but hinted that his country would not soften on harsh penalty for people, including Filipino nationals, found guilty of the crime.

Liu said China is firmly against drug trafficking which the Chinese government has been fighting for years.

He stressed China needs help from countries to contain drug trafficking.
