Section: General News - Power retailer Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is asking the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to increase its rate next year to further improve its services and fund expansion programs that will benefit its customers.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), Meralco is seeking a 27-centavo per kilowatt hour (kWh) hike under the performance-based regulation (PBR) scheme for its distribution, supply and metering charges.

Based on its petition, Meralco proposed a distribution rate of P1.1858 per kWh for users consuming 201 to 300 kWh per month from P0.8765 per kWh (based on July figures) which translates to an increase of …
