FAMILIES got a chance to take a step back in time at the weekend and come face to face with mythical beasts. Thousands flocked to the two-day Whitley Bay International Kite Festival during the weekend, which saw some of the UK's finest flyers bringing kites of all shapes and sizes to the skies of North Tyneside. Among the designs which wowed the crowds were Chinese dragons over 100 metres in length, giant lizards and colossal clowns. The skyline above the seaside town was dominated with kites being flown by both professionals and amateur enthusiasts.
