Company won't talk; price may be $20 million or more

WEST END - O'Hara-based Giant Eagle Inc., the region's largest supermarket chain, is apparently planning to build a massive 400,000-square-foot cold storage facility close to its Crafton warehouse.

The price is upward of $20 million, according to sources in the real estate community.

That's also the amount Giant Eagle took out in a January mortgage from Variable Annuity Life Insurance Co., according to documents filed with the Allegheny County Recorder of Deeds.
