Sonic increases bandwidth. Sonic Systems Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif., in March shipped the Bandit, a device that lets administrators combine the bandwidth of as many as three modems to create one connection. The company said users can achieve speeds of 345 Kbps by hooking up ISDN modems to each of the Bandit's three ports. The device can be shared over a network and includes a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server. The $499 Bandit comes with a built-in, four-port Ethernet hub. Farallon trims price of Starlets. Farallon, a division of Netopia Inc. of Alameda, Calif., at the end of March cut the prices of its Starlet switches by as much as 39 percent. The company said it lowered the street price of its Starlet switch with eight 10Base T ports and two 100Base T ports to $739 from $999. The company's Starlet switch with 16 10Base T ports and two dual-speed, 10- and 100-Mbps Ethernet ports dropped from $1,579 to $969. Farallon's Fast Starlet switch, with eight dual-speed Ethernet ports, is now $1,299, down from $1,759.
