ASEAN: ASEAN Human Rights Body to be launched at the 15th ASEAN Summit in October.
Section: General News - The ASEAN Foreign Ministers, during the ongoing 42nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Phuket, southern Thailand, support the draft terms of reference (TOR) for the ASEAN human rights body, for which they proposed the name ASEAN Inter-Governmental Commission on Human Rights.
They met the High-Level Panel on the Human Rights Body in Phuket on July 19 to discuss the issue. ASEAN plans to launch this ASEAN human rights body at the 15th ASEAN Summit, also to be held in Phuket, in October 2009.
