Women make up only 20% of undergrads majoring in engineering, according to the National Engineers Week Foundation. Even more disheartening, is the percentage has remained stagnant for over a decade.

Purdue University's dean of engineering, Dr. Leah Jamieson, said there is no single reason for the lack of progress of women joining the field. But she noted that the image of engineering conflicts with many young women's interest in helping society.
