A SENIOR North-East doctor last night criticised official Government advice on swine flu after in a big increase in the number of UK deaths.

Chief Medical Officer Sir Liam Donaldson said 29 people had died in the UK after contracting the virus.

Although no firm data exists on how many people have the virus, the NHS estimates as many as 85,000 could be infected.

Cherie Blair, wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, yesterday became the virus' most high-profile casualty and forced her to cancel several engagements.
