Attention Earth: Next month is the dawn of a new era for mankind! Oops, too much Babylon 5. Actually, next month is the premiere of the magazine our readers have been asking for, e-Business Advisor--the professional guide to the new computing world that is revolutionizing business.

E-business comprises the new standards-based, connectivity-enabled IT infrastructure, including integrated technical and business missions and practices. E-business involves networking and communications, distributed databases and applications, remote and portable computing, e-commerce, web sites--and people. E-business is very much about deep integration of local and remote staff (Intranet), suppliers and partners (Extranet), and prospects and customers (Web), all based on open Internet standards. E-business is focused on improving response time, extending information sharing, and raising the knowledge of everyone in the enterprise. It's a profound change in how business operates.

Although the term is recent, e-business has been a focus of this magazine for many years. A decade ago, we were explaining how to build distributed database and online applications, using crude technology, but doing it nonetheless because the benefits were important.

Recognizing how rapidly e-business is becoming vital to the success of enterprises of all types, we believe (and our readers have been telling us) it deserves a strong technical magazine. e-Business Advisor magazine is it--a platform for professionals to share their experiences, techniques, and wisdom.

Here's what's happening. As of the April 1998 issue, readers world-wide will receive e-Business Advisor magazine instead of this one. e-Business Advisor will combine the best of Databased Web Advisor and Internet & Java Advisor, so you'll continue to get plenty of "how to" database, Java, and web development articles. You'll also gain important new features and columns--and, by popular demand, the return of investigative reporter Buzz Hunter!
