DOJ appropriations bill includes increases for drug courts, no MH merger.(Department of Justice)

On June 18, the House of Representatives cleared the appropriations bill (H.R. 2847) that includes funding for the Department of Justice (DOJ). There are significant increases for many addiction-related programs, including a $20 million increase, bringing the total to $30 million from $10 million, for residential substance abuse treatment, and a $75 million increase for Second Chance Act funding, bringing the total to $100 million.

President Obama had recommended combining mental health, drug, and problem-solving courts, which the House did not accept. Legislative language instead refers to "collaboration among state corrections, alcohol and drug abuse and mental health …
