At local high-tech firms, the fates of Asian economies and larger competitors will mean much in the coming year
The roller coaster ride is likely to continue for local technology companies in 1998.
Poor showings by the industry's larger players, weaknesses in Asian economies and skittish investors will fuel the ups and downs, making it difficult for firms in nearly every sector to sustain momentum.
"It's one thing driving another," said Monish Bahl, research analyst with investment banker Parker/Hunter Inc., Downtown. "The problems in Asia kind of trickled down to people having concerns with earnings and moving away from investing in the market."
