Marlins' vice president recalls scouting Steve McNair for the Seattle Mariners.

Dan Jennings was at a Fourth of July function with his family when he heard about Steve McNair's death. The Marlins' vice president of player personnel, Jennings instantly was transported back to a tiny house in Mount Olive, Miss., where he watched Wheel of Fortune with McNair's grandmother as the rest of the family made a life-altering decision.

An area scout for the Seattle Mariners at the time, Jennings in 1991 was between games, driving from Jackson to Hattiesburg. He went through a town called Mendenhall and took note of a high school game. Mendenhall was hosting Mount Olive.
